The registration date for the Qualification Report is included in the student's form, and if it is sent on the last day of registration, it must be sent during business hours, by 6:00 p.m.

The new Regulation of the Spanish Language and Hispanic-American Literature Program, approved on 02/15/2023 - Resolution published on 03/06/2023 -, outlines below the changes specifically affecting deadlines and conditions for Master's and Doctoral qualifications:

The exam must be taken within maximum 60 days after registration (For students enrolled before 02/15/2023).

The exam must be taken within maximum 90 (ninety) days after registration (For students enrolled from 02/15/2023 onward, and for those students who opted for the regulation change).

Graduate students who fail to take the exam within their program's stipulated period will be dismissed from the program, per Item V of Article 52 of the USP Graduate Regulations.
The qualification report consists of two parts:
- the detailed report of academic activities completed during the period;
- the thesis summary, at least one drafted chapter, and the work development schedule.

During the exam, the examining committee must comprise three members, including the advisor, all holding at least a doctoral degree. Students who fail the qualification exam may register to retake it only once, submitting a new registration within 60 (sixty) days. The second exam must be taken within 60 (sixty) days after registration for the second exam. If failed again, the student will be dismissed from the Program and receive a certificate of completed courses. All exam-related information will always be available on the student's record.
